In a meeting of the clubs of the SuperLiga and Segunda Divisão Friday, it was voted that the deadline for submission of a certificate saying that the clubs were all square with the taxman would not be shifted to September. The clubs will now have to prove that they are paid up by July 4th.

They also voted to reduce the number of years of coaching course necessary for coaches to hold the position of head coach in a club, from four to three. This conveniently lets in Boavista's Erwin Sanchez, who was in danger of not being able to coach Boavista for this reason.

The Socialist Party of Faro in the Algarve have suggested that local club Farense, in the Segunda and wracked by dire financial problems, should sell its Estádio de São Luís for development to clear its debts. The club would then be able to play in the Estádio do Algarve, a 30,000-seater being built for Euro 2004.

Meanwhile, Algarve neighbours Portimonense, who missed promotion to the SuperLiga by a whisker, are on the verge of going into administration. The club is 89 years old.

The elections for President of Vitória de Setúbal, relegated from the SuperLiga, ended in pandemonium Wednesday. 2003 votes were cast, the challenger Júlio Adrião 'beat' current president Jorge Goes by 1002 votes to 998. Adrião was declared winner by the Chairman of the Assembly, Mata Cáceres. But the losing side protested as the total of votes didn't tally, and demanded a recount. The 'winners' refused, saying they had officially been declared winners. There was fighting, during which voting ballots were scattered across the hall. Cáceres went back on his word later and said that there should be a re-count, but that there were no conditions for one. There will very likely have to be a re-vote in the near furture.
