Portugal ground out a 0-0 draw with Italy in Milan to top their group in the Nations League and qualify for the Final Four, to be played in Portugal next June. Italy dominated practically the whole game (possession 66/34) but were unable to break through a solid defence - Portugal’s saving grace on the night. Key for the Seleção were Rui Patrício, with two or three important saves, the centre-backs José Fonte and Rúben Dias, terrier-like left back Mário Rui, and João Mário, who came off the bench to give the Portuguese attack a lift. It was far from an impressive performance, but a precious result.

Portugal: Rui Patrício, Cancelo, Rúben Dias, José Fonte, Mário Rui, Rúben Neves, William Carvalho, Pizzi (João Mário 68), Bernardo Silva, Bruma (Raphael Guerreiro 85), André Silva (Danilo 90)
