Luís Figo, 34, who ends his contract with Inter Milan at the end of the season, has reportedly signed a six-month contract with Saudi-Arabian club Al Ittihad, during which time he is set to earn six million euros.

Pogon, the Polish club that loaned Kazmierczak and Grzelak out to Boavista at the beginning gof the season, have complained to UEFA about the lack of payment of the amounts agreed between the two clubs. The players are on loan at Boavista until the end of the season, when the Porto club will have the option to buy.

Portsmouth coach Harry Redknapp says he wants to keep Manuel Fernandes, on loan from Benfica, at the club, but warns that it will only be possible if Benfica's price to sign him definitively is "reasonable" (the current fee is reported to be 18 million euros). Rednapp has been accused of not playing Fernandes enough, under pressure from the Directors; if Fernandes starts in three straight games, the option to buy is automatically activated.

Beira-Mar have signed the goal-keeper Eduardo and the forward Matheus on loan from Sporting Braga. The club from Aveiro, in the centre of Portugal, have also signed left back Ezequias from F.C. Porto on the same basis.

F.C. Porto have loaned winger Diogo Valente to Marítimo.

Benfica's Brazilian midfielder Diego Souza will be loaned out to Grémio of Porto Alegre for 2007, possibly returning to the Luz in 2008.

Estrela da Amadora right back Tony has signed a three-year contract with Romanian club Cluj for 170,000. Another full-back, Fredy has also signed for Cluj from Paços de Ferreira for 100,000 euros. Cluj contracted four players from Portugal in the summer: Cadú, Manuel José, Pedro Oliveira and Semedo.

FC Porto have signed right back Fucile from Liverpool of Montevideo, paying 400,000 euros on top of the 200,000 already paid to take him on loan. The Uruguayan international signs until 2010.

Abel Xavier, 34, has signed a contract until the end of the season with English club Middlesborough. It was with Middlesborough that Xavier failed a drugs test in September of last year and was suspended, retruning to training with the club in August.

Spanish sports daily As has suggested that Atlético Madrid are keen to sign FC Porto winger Ricardo Quaresma in the next transfer window. Porto president Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa would be loath to sell last year's Liga Player of the Season, but if the Portuguese champions are knocked out of the Champions League, he may be forced to on economic grounds. Quaresma had a so-so spell at Barcelona after leaving Sporting, where he began his career and was a team-mate of Cristiano Ronaldo's.

Benfica have loaned Brazilian striker Marcel to Sporting Braga. Braga look to be losing João Tomás to Al-Arabi of Qatar.

Sports Daily A Bola reported Sunday that winger Simão Sabrosa will be staying at Benfica, after various aborted transfer attempts during the close season.

Naval have signed two new reinforcements: Brazilian midfielder Fábio Lima on a three-year contract and defender Valdir on loan from Sporting for a season.

Carlos Fangueiro, 29, has moved between English clubs Millwall and Walsall on a one-year deal. Fangueiro is father of quadruplets.

Benfica's Brazilian winger Manduca, 26, has been loaned to AEK Athens for a season, with option to buy next summer. Manduca arrived at Benfica last January and was a useful asset to the club, but obviously did not please new coach Fernando Santos. Manduca has been in Portuguese football since 1999, having also played for Felgueiras, Despoertivo das Chaves and Paços de Ferreira.

Benfica have also loaned central defender José Fonte for a season to Estrela da Amadora.

Belenenses have signed forward Paulo Marcel Pereira Merabet ('Roma'), 27. The player has represented: Remo, Flamengo, União de Mogi, Marília and Brasiliense (all in Brazil), and Al Nassar (Saudi Arabia), Chonbuk (South Korea), Lokeren (Belgium) and Pumas (Mexico).

Benfica have signed Mexican forward Francisco 'Kikin' Fonseca, 26, from Deportivo Cruz Azul on a four-year deal, the fee 3.5 million euros. Meanwhile, winger Simão Sabrosa is in Valência with his agent Jorge Mendes to negotiate a move to the local club.

Sporting have also raided the South American market, but this time the player, the Uruguayan forward Carlos Bueno, is on loan for one season from Paris Saint Germain . Bueno is nicknamed 'El Loco' because of his work rate.

Sporting are to lend Chilean striker Maurício Pinilla, 22, to Scottish club Hearts for a season. He joins Portuguese players Bruno Aguiar and José Gonçalves.

Former Sporting captain Ricardo Sá Pinto, 33, has joined Belgian club Standard Liége on a one-year contract. He joins compatriots Sérgio Conceição, Areias, Nuno Coelho and Rogério Matias.

Sporting have secured the services of Valência defender Marco Caneira for the next five seasons, although the Spanish club can request his return at the beginning of each season.

Benni McCarthy, 28, has left FC Porto to sign a four-year deal with Blackburn Rovers, the fee 2.5 million euros.

Fiorentina are interested in FC Porto striker Hélder Postiga.

Académica officially presented Brazilian midfielder Fabiano Cabral on Monday … and released him on Friday. He came on as sub in Académica's 0-3 defeat at the hands of Liga de Honra side Leixões Wednesday.

Portuguese international Costinha has passed the medical checks at Atlético Madrid and will join the squad in Germany, then China.

The transfer of Manuel Fernandes from Benfica to Portsmouth has been put on hold. The player nicknamed Manelelé has been struggling with a groin injury, and this has apparently given the English club cold feet. The midfielder has been given a month to recover.

Paraguayan international midfielder Carlos Paredes, 30, is in Lisbon to sign a three-year deal with Sporting after medical tests Monday. Paredes was at FC Porto between 2000 and 2002.

Simão Sabrosa looks set to leave Benfica; he was told by the club not to be present at the official presentation of the squad Saturday. Valência appear to be the only club concretely interested, but they have reportedly offered only 15 million euros (plus di Vaio) when Benfica want 20.

FC Porto have joined Sporting and Benfica in the hunt for Spanish striker Diego Tristán from Déportivo de la Couruña.

Porto are in talks with Blackburn Rovers to sell South African stiker Benni McCarthy. The price will be 2.5 million euros.

Benfica midfielder Manuel Fernandes looks set to join English Premiership club Portsmouth on a four-year deal. Benfica own 50% of the players pass, and will reportedly bank 15 million euros. Fernandes meets the Portsmouth Chairman Thursday.

Portsmouth's local rivals Southampton presented central defender Pelé Wednesday, signed from Belenenses on a three-year contract.

Mário Jardel was officially presented as a Beira-Mar player Monday. The Brazilian striker, Liga top scorer on various occasions for FC Porto and Sporting, said that he missed his children, who are studying in Portugal, and that was why he was keen to return. He is around eight kilos overweight, and was excused from training Monday "to rest". A local seafood restaurant has offered him a seafood dinner for every goal he scores. "I accept," he said … "They're going to make a loss."

Also signed by Beira-Mar on a two-year contract is Bulgarian 'keeper Todor Angelov, 27, from CSKA Sofia.

Marco Caneira will represent Sporting for a further three seasons, on loan from Valência.

Out of Sporting go Chilean striker Maurício Pinilla, loaned to Hearts for a season, and Brazilian striker Manoel, who has rescinded his contract with the club, a contract that still had two years left to run.

FC Porto have loaned Turkish full back Sonkaya to Académica for a season.

Mário Jardel has still not shown up at Beira-Mar. He is stuck in Brazil sorting out personal matters, but the club from Aveiro has said that if he doesn't show before the end of next week, then the deal is off.

Inter Milan, Mónaco, Atlético Madrid and Galatasaray are all interested in signing Portuguese international Maniche, who doesn't want to complete the four years left on his contract with Dynamo Moscow. Dynamo would ideally like to recoup the 16 million euros shelled out to FC Porto for the midfielder in May 2005.

Defender Marco Caneira looks set to sign for Sporting for three or four seasons, on loan from Valência.

Boavista have signed Argentinian central defender Leonardo Tambussi to replace Cadú, transferred to Romanian club Cluj. Tambussi previously represented Racing Avellaneda of Argentina and and Dorados of Mexico.

Valência, who already have three Portuguese players on their books (Miguel, Hugo Viana and Caneira), have said that they are interested in signing Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United. The player has said that he wants to leave the English giants after the flak he received from the English press in the World Cup. United, however, are resisting the exit of the young winger.

Belenenses central defender Pelé is to join Southampton on a three-year contract, the fee around a million euros.

Académica have signed the Colombian striker Nestor Álvarez, 25.

Gilmar Veloz, Carlos Paredes' agent, has said that the Paraguayan midfielder has all but signed a three-year contract with Sporting. Paredes has played in Portugal before, for FC Porto.

Utility player Marco Caneira, currently under contract with Valência, may be used as a bargaining chip to secure Asier del Horno from Chelsea, Caneira going the other way. The Portuguese international was at Sporting on loan last season, and the Lisbon giants are keen to have him for another season.

Benfica have sold French winger Laurent Robert, 31, to Spanish side Levante. Robert scored three goals in 19 games last season. His contract with Levante is for two seasons.

Benfica have extended the loan of Italian striker Miccoli from Juventus for one more season. Miccoli played in 23 games and scored six goals for Benfica last season.

Polish striker Marek Saganowski, 27, has swapped Vitória de Guimarães for Troyes of the French first division. He scored 12 goals in 32 games last season for Vitória, who were relegated to the Liga de Honra.

Boavista and Naval of the Liga, and Santa Clara, Leixões, Rio Ave and Varzim of the Liga de Honra (second division) have all been prohibited from registering players because they have debts to individuals or institutions that are part of the Federation.

Brazilian striker Mário Jardel is returning to Portuguese football. He has signed a one-year contract with newly promoted Beira-Mar. In Portugal, he previously played for FC Porto and Sporting. The club from Aveiro have also signed Brazilian midfielder Luciano Ratinho from Paysandu.

FC Porto have bought Brazilian striker Adriano outright from Brazilian club Cruzeiro for 1.2 million euros. He was on loan to Porto last season.

Atlético Madrid are after Simão Sabrosa of Benfica. Benfica want 20 million euros, but may settle for less.

Sporting are interested in signing Spanish striker Diego Tristan on loan from Déportivo de la Coruña, but the Spanish club want to sell the player outright.

Gil Vicente presented three new faces to their squad Friday: João Pereira (ex-Benfica), Simão Coutinho (ex-Sporting) and the Brazilian Diego (ex-XV Novembro). That makes 11 new signings for the club from Barcelos in the north of Portugal.

Portugal U-20 international Manuel da Costa has signed a five-year deal with PSV Eindhoven, coached by Ronald Koeman. Da Costa was previously with French club Nancy.

FC Porto midfielder Sérgio Organista has left the club's payroll to join Spanish side Pontevedra.

Brazilian striker Diogo Macedo has joined Beira-Mar from União Sport Clube of Mato Grosso on a two-year contract.

Striker Mário Jardel, formerly of FC Porto and Sporting, is in Portugal visiting friends, but he has said that he has been in contact with two Portuguese clubs with a view to possibly returning to the Liga.

The transfer of Cameroonian winger Douala from Sporting to Middlesborough is on hold; the new coach of the English club will have to give his approval of the move.

Midfielder Filipe Teixeira has extended his contract with Académica until 2009.

João Pinto was presented Saturday as a Sporting Braga player. Ironically, he moves to the club previously coached by the new coach, Jesualdo Ferreira, of his former club Boavista . His contract is for one season.

Valência have said that defender Marco Caneira is not part of their plans for the coming season, which leaves the way open for the Portuguese international to continue at Sporting where he spent last season on loan. His contract with Valência is until 2011, so if Sporting wanted to buy him, they would need to cough up a sizeable sum. Chelsea and Manchester United are said to be interested in the versatile defender, who can play as full back, centre back or defensive midfielder.

The same Valência are reported to have offered Benfica 12 million euros, plus players, for winger Simão Sabrosa.

Sporting have sold Cameroonian international winger Douala to Middlesborough for three million euros.

Estrela da Amadora have signed goalkeeepr Pedro Alves and forward Paulo Sérgio from relegated Belenenses. Paulo Sérgio was loaned out to Beleneneses by Sporting.

Left back Mário Silva returns to Boavista after a spell in Spain at the service of Huelva and Cádiz. His contract is for three seasons, and he replaces the on-loan Areias, who returns to FC Porto.

Former Boavista central defender Litos, in recent seasons on Malaga's books, wants to return to Portugal, and Marítimo are interested.

Sporting's Mozambican left back Paíto, 23, has signed for Spanish club Mallorca, but he will be loaned out to Sporting Braga. He spent the second half of last season on loan to Vitória de Guimarães.

Seville are chasing FC Porto right back Bosingwa.

CRF Cluj of Romania have signed Semedo, 27, from Estrela da Amadora and Pedro Oliveira, 24, from Vitória de Setúbal. Both players have signed on three-year contracts.

In an interview with TV channel TVI, Chelsea manager José Mourinho rejected the possibility of Simão Sabrosa and Ricardo Quaresma going to Stamford Bridge, but confirmed that goalkeeper Hilário will be going as third choice.

Atlético Madrid have confirmed that Costinha has signed for them from Moscow Dynamo, on a two-year contract.

Académica have signed defender Medeiros, 29, from relegated Vitória de Guimarães.

Marítimo have presented four new signings: Fábio Santos (ex-Paraná), defenders José Gomes (Rio Ave) and Gregory (Gil Vicente) and midfielder Neca (Vitória de Guimarães). Coach Ulisses Morais said that five or such more signings are on their way. Eleven players have left the club: Nélson, Ferreira, van Gáal, Valnei, Nuno Morais, Caíco, Mancuso, Ali, Rincon, Nilson Sergipano and Zé Carlos.

Central defender Fernando Couto, 36, has extended his contract with Parma for one more season.

Benfica's Brazilian forward Geovanni, formerly of Barcelona, is on his way to Cruzeiro. Terms have been agreed with the Brazilian club, and all that is needed now is for agreement to be reached over the player's rescission with the Lisbon giants.

FC Porto midfielder Diego's move to Werder Bremen is official, the transfer taking effect from 1 July. The fee is six million euros.

Sporting Braga presented two new reinforcements Monday: midfielder Ricardo Chaves from Vitória de Setúbal and striker Zé Carlos from Marítimo. Also lined up are winger Maciel from FC Porto and forward João Pinto from Boavista.

Naval have also signed two new players: defender Orestes from Santa Clara and midfielder Pimenta from Sporting da Covilhã.

Rui Costa has been presented offically as a Benfica player for next season after a long sojourn in Italian football. Such was the midfielder's desire to return to his homeland that he let his new contract be drawn up without any spcific amounts of money being mentioned.

FC Porto are to loan out Paulo Machado, Ivanildo and Bruno Vale to União de Leiria. Winger Maciel, loaned by FC Porto to Leiria, is to move to Sporting Braga.

Rui Costa has reportedly come to an agreement with AC Milan to rescind his contract, which has one year left on it, and leave the club at no cost, as long as it is to Portugal and Benfica . His contract at the Luz will be for one year, with one more as optional. Rui Costa began his career at the Luz, and his dream has always been to end it there.

Rui Costa said Tuesday that he hopes soon to be a Benfica player. He is in negotiations with AC Milan, where he has a year left on his contract.

Boavista have taken up the option on Cameroonian midifelder Essame and have extended his contract until 2009. The club has released Rui Duarte, Figueiredo and Oravec.

Relegated Belenenses have signed goalkeeper Costinha, 32, from União de Leiria on a three-year contract. The transfer is to cover for club captain Marco Aurélio, out with a serious knee injury.

Wisla Krakow of Poland have signed veteran central defender Cléber. The Brazilian was at relegated Vitória de Guimarães last year but leaves at no cost.

FC Porto president Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa said Saturday that the club does not need to sign any more than the two players already contracted: João Paulo from União de Leiria and Diogo Valente from Boavista. He also said that midfielder Diego is as good as sold to Werder Bremen.

It is widely reported in the Portuguese press that AC Milan's Rui Costa is finally set to return to Benfica, where he will finish his career.

FC Porto's Diego has signed for Werder Bremen on a four-year contract. In his two years at Porto, the chunky Brazilian midfielder rarely impressed.

Ricardo Sá Pinto, who went back on his decision to retire at the end of last season only to discover that Sporting did not want him, has been linked to a move to MSL side LA Revolution , along with ex-Penafiel midfielder Nílton.

Hélder Postiga is to leave St Étienne after the French club decided not to stump up the five million euros to secure his transfer from FC Porto.

Midfielder Maniche, loaned out to Chelsea by Moscow Dynamo in the transfer window, is not wanted by Chelsea. The player started in only five games for the English Champions.

Another midfielder, Silas, loaned to relegated Belenenses by Wolves, is looking for a new club. The English club is not prepared to take up the option to extend the player's contract.

Sporting have signed right back Abel from Sporting Braga for 750,000 euros. Abel was on loan at Alvalade for the second half of last season. On the way out appears to be Cameroonian winger Douala, not a favourite of coach Paulo Bento.

Benfica forward Laurent Robert has said that he would be interested in a move to Scottish side Rangers. Robert did not impress in his first season at the Luz, and Benfica will be happy to off-load him.

The club has received shows of interest from foreign clubs for the player, previously with Vitória de Setúbal. Sporting's midfielder/winger Luís Carlos Almeida Cunha, or 'Nani' for short, may soon be in great demand. He comes fom a school that has already supplied Figo, Cristiano Ronaldo, Ricardo Quaresma and the up-and-coming João Moutinho. but as he approaches maturity (he is just 19), there may be a battle for his services. The Portuguese U-21 international's current agent is one Ana Almeida, but there are rumours that he will switch to the Agent to the Superstars Jorge Mendes and his Gestifute operation. Mendes already has Quaresma, Cristiano Ronaldo, Deco, Tiago, Costinha, Maniche and Jos´Mourinho on his roster. Nani, who has 13 starts for Sporting this season, has a contract with Ana Almeida until the end of April. The rescission clause in his contract with Sporting is valued at 20 miullion euros.

Cameroonian international midfielder Emmanuel Amunga, 22, is in trials with Boavista with a view to ssigning. He has most recently been attached to Cton Sport of Cameroons, winners of the last two local Championship titles.

Sporting have signed Spanish forward Koke, 22, on loan from Marseilles until the end of the season.

Sporting Braga have signed Brazilian centre back Wellington from Rio Branco of São Paulo, a replacement for Nunes, recently transferred to Mallorca. Braga are also interested in bringing back utility player Fréchaut from Moscow Dynamo.

Boavista left back Carlos Fernandes, little used by coach Carlos Brito, has signed for Sporting Braga on a two-and-a-half-year contract. He replaces Jorge Luíz, who was transferred to Moscow Dynamo. Boavista have loaned out forward Paulo Gomes to Liga de Honra side Maia and goalkeeper Hugo Ferreira to Spanish second-division side Orense.

Former Penafiel midfielder Wesley, more recently of Spanish side Alavés, has signed for struggling Vitória de Guimarães, on loan until the end of the season.

Former Benfica left-back Bruno Basto has moved from Feyenoord to French club St. Étienne until the end of the season.

Benfica players João Pereira and João Vilela have been presented at Gil Vicente, loaned out until the end of the season.

Portuguese left back Bruno Basto, formerly of Benfica, wants to leave Dutch club Feyenoord. He has refused to renew his contract and is currently training with the 'B' Team.

Sporting's central defender Beto is set to sign for French club Bordeaux after various attempts to keep him at the club failed.

Former Sporting and Portuguese international left back Rui Jorge has signed for Lisbon club Belenenses on a contract of one and a half seasons.

Académica have signed Brazilian forward Serjão from Liga de Honra side Portimonense to replace Marcel, sold to Benfica.

Cruzeiro midfielder Jardel (no relation) has been signed by Marítimo, who now have 50% of his pass.

Sporting Braga are to sell left back Jorge Luíz to Moscow Dynamo. This follows the sale of central defender Nunes to Mallorca and right back Abel to Sporting, effectivley dismantling the northern club's defence. Nunes, 28, has gone to the Spanish club on a three-and-a-half-year contract, Mallorca apaying 2.5 million euros for half of his pass.

Estrela da Amadora have signed Argentinian forward Maxi Bevacqua (formerly Sporting Braga) and left-sided forward N'Daye, fresh from Senegal.

The English press is suggesting that Mancester United's Cristiano Ronaldo may be on his way from Old Trafford in the light of recent disciplinary problems and a drop in form. He was bought for 17.5 million euros from Sporting three seasons ago and would leave for something in the region of 30 million.

Former Académica striker Marcel has joined Benfica. The Brazilian, who has scored nine goals for Os Estudantes this season, is likely to be presented officially Tuesday. French left back Dos Santos has joined AS Monaco on an 18-month contract. Benfica have loaned Brazilian midfielder Everson to Swiss club Young Boys. Everson has a contract until 2008 but has never made his mark at the Luz, mainly because of persistent injuries. He has been playing for the 'B' Team this season.

Sporting and Brazilian striker Elpideo Silva have parted company on amicable terms. Silva had a contract until the end of the season.

Brazilian striker Adriano, 27, who made his name in Portugal at the service of Madeiran side Nacional, has signed for FC Porto until the end of the season from Brazilian club Cruzeiro. If he makes his mark at the club, Porto may decide to keep him, but will have to pay 1.2 million euros, to be divided among Cruzeiro, Nacional and the player himself. Sporting were interested in signing the player, but Nacional president Rui Alves said that he did not want Adriano to go to a direct competitor for a European place.

Benfica have signed 17-year-old Australian Kaz Patafta, who will play initially in the Benfica 'B' team.

Sporting forward Silvestre Varela, 20, has joined Vitória de Setúbal on loan until the end of the season. He moves to get the regular football that might earn him a place in the Portuguese U-21 squad for next summer's European Championship. Also presented at Vitória Thursday was winger Carlitos, from Benfica.

Central defender José Fonte went to Benfica at the time of the cash crisis at Vitória. He has now been loaned out to Paços de Ferreira until the end of the season.

Cape Verdean striker Daddy has signed for Belenenses from Estoril, from which club he rescined contract after the recent difficulty in paying wages there.

High-riding Madeiran club Nacional have said that Brazilian club Cruzeiro can sell striker Adriano, ex-Nacional, to any club they want ... as long as they deposit half a million euros in the Nacional bank account. Nacional claim that there is a sell-on clause in the player's contract with the Brazilian club. Adriano has been mooted for Sporting in recent days.

Boavista have signed Slovakian international Thomas Oravec, 25, on a two-and-a-half-year contract from Greek side Panionios.

Brazilian striker Adriano, sold to Cruzeiro by Nacional in the close season, is on his way back to Portugal, according to his agent. Sporting may be the destination.

Brazilian midfielder Jaime, out of favour at Sporting Braga, looks set to join União de Leiria. Argentinian forward Maxi Bevacqua, on loan to Braga from San Lorenzo , has rescinded his contract with the club.

Portuguese international midfielder Pedro Mendes has revealed that he will be leaving Tottenham Hotspur in the coming weeks. Mendes has had trouble making his mark under coach Martin Jol. Portsmouth are seen as a possible destination.

Sporting are interested in signing former FC Porto forward Derlei, now at Dynamo Moscow. The Brazilian has said that he would like to return to Portugal, but that he is happy in Moscow. Meanwhile, Mallorca have shown an interest in signing Sporting's central defender Beto, who has been offered an extension to his contract at Sporting but with a cut in wages.

Another Brazilian dissatisfied with his club is Marcel, Académica's top scorer. He's on the market for 2.3 million euros.

Portsmouth is a possible destination for FC Porto striker Benni McCarthy, unsettled at the club that is currently at the top of the Liga.

Boavista´s Brazilian striker William Souza, signed in the close season from Santos, has said that he will not play again for the club and wants to return to Brazil. William has had few opportunities to shine for the northern club. Boavista have sold forward Guga to Greek club Larissa.

Nacional, riding high in the Liga, have signed Brazilian midfielder Juliano Spadacio from São João de Araras on a four-and-a-half-year contract.

Vitória de Guimarães have presented their latest signing, the Spanish winger Francisco Gallardo, on loan until the end of the season from Seville.

French winger Laurent Robert has signed a contract for three and a half years with Benfica and was officially presented at the Luz Wedensday, alongside his family and dog Aston.

Chelsea have clinched the loan transfer of Maniche, 29, from Dynamo Moscow. He will stay at the English Champions until the end of the season.

The Gabonese striker Antchouet, 26, has signed for Vitória de Guimarães from Spanish side Alavés. At the same time, Spanish winger Gallardo, 26, has also signed for the northern club, also until the end of the season, from Getafe.

Brazilian goalkeeper Moretto has moved from Vitória de Setúbal across the River Tagus to Benfica in a one million euro move that will keep him there until 2011. There was a tug-of-war over the player between the Lisbon giants and FC Porto, but according to Vitória president Chumbita Nunes, Benfica's offer was better. Benfica president was forced to travel to brazil to secure the ok of the 1m96 'keeper, and there were incidents in São Paulo and Lisbon Airports between the Benfica entourage and FC Porto's representative. Porto are claiming they had a preliminary contract with the player, but the player accuses the club of putting undue pressure on him.

Benfica have also signed winger Marco Ferreira, 27, released by Porto. "It's a childhood dream," he said.

Marco Caneira trained at Sporting's Academia Monday but his move from Valência is not yet complete, his international certificate still to come through.

Penafiel presented three new players Monday that they hope will help drag the club off the bottom of the table: Brazilians Juninho Petrolina, Jan and Dill.

Académica's star Brazilian striker Marcel, coveted by many clubs in Portugal and abroad, has refused to resume training after the Christmas break, demanding that the club give him a move. Académica, in turn, are insisting that the player stays with the club as he has a valid contract, and he now faces disciplinary action.
