Left back Lucas Mareque, who joined FC Porto this time last year but played only a handful of games before being loaned out to Independiente, is to sign a four-year contract wth the Argentinian club. Porto will stand to earn as much again as they paid, around one million euros.

Boavista are set to sign midfielder Luís Loureiro, who has rescinded his contract with Cypriot side Anorthisus Famagusta. The Panteras and Serbian midfielder Milan Gajic have terminated the player's contract by mutual consent. Gajic joined the club at the beginning of the season but has started in just two games. The club has also released Brazilian full back Marquinho , who is headed for Vasco da Gama.

AEL Limassol, coached by Portuguese Manuel Barreto, have confirmed the loan of Sporting's young central defender Daniel Carriço. Also joining the cub are forwards Filipe Azevedo from Ourense and Moses from Estrela da Amadora.

The Liga's bottom club União de Leiria have announced the releease of eight players: Renato, André Marques, Nélson, Patrick, Marco Soares, NGal, Zongo and Jessuí. Renato was in his ninth year at the club. Returining to Leiria is Brazilian midfielder Harison.

Centre back Litos, who arrived in Coimbra from Málaga in 2006, has rescinded his contract with Académica after being used very little.

Premier League side Reading are interested in signing Nigerian (naturalised Maltese) midfielder Nwoko, 23, from Leixões.


FC Porto have loaned Uruguayan midfielder Luís Aguiar to Estrela da Amadora, Brazilian forward Claudio Pitbull to Vitória de Setúbal and goalkeeper Bruno Vale to Varzim, of the Liga de Honra (second tier), both for one season.

Sporting Braga have extended the contract of Argentinian midfielder Andrés Madrid until 2012 and have signed midfielder/forward Jorginho from FC Porto on a four-year contract.

Paços de Ferreira have signed left back Valdir, 23, on a two-year contract. The Portuguese U-21 international has been brought in to replace Antunes, who has moved to AS Roma on a year's loan.

Dutch forward Douglas has left Marítimo to return to Holland, where he will represent Willem II.


Benfica have confirmed the signing of central defender Edcarlos from São Paulo for a fee of 1.8 million euros. The contract is for four years.

Paços de Ferreira's Portuguese U-21 left back Antunes is in Rome undergoing tests at AS Roma, for whom he will sign on loan for a year for a fee of 300,000 euros, later to be sold for 1.5 million euros if he impresses.

União de Leiria have signed left back Patrick Fabiann Lopes, 26, and forward Rafael Sobreira da Costa ('Paty'), also 26, both from Ituano, of the Brazilian Série B.


Inter Milan have signed Portuguese U-21 midfielder Vítor Hugo Gomes Passos ('Pelé'), 19, from Vitória de Guimarães on a five-year contract.

Benfica have loaned winger Manú to AEK Athens until the end of the season. He will join up with two other ex-Benfica players, goalkeeper Moretto and left winger Manduca.

The Brazilians Hugo Alcântara (28, central defender, who has already represented Vitória de Setúbal and Académica in Portugal and arrives from Legia Warsaw), Tiago Schmidt (23, goalkeeper, from Avaía) and forwards Evando Paulista (19, from Ituano) and Weldon (27, loaned by Cruzeiro) were all presented as reinforcements by Belenenses Tuesday.


Benfica confirmed Monday that they have signed two Uruguayan players: Maximiliano Pereira (ex-Deportivo Sporting) and Cristian Rodriguez (ex-PSG). The former signs for five years for a fee of three million euros. The latter arrives on a free.

Benfica are also reported to be on the point of signing São Paulo central defender Edcarlos, 22.

Boavista presented two new reinforcements Monday: central defender Moíses, on loan from Cruzeiro, and Angolan forward Mateus, 23, on a three-year contract. Mateus was a free agent after rescinding with Gil Vicente. Boavista have signed 19 (!) new players for this season.


Valência are to sign Benfica midfielder Manuel Fernandes on a six-year contract, the fee 15 million euros. Fernandes was set to join English club Everton but negotiations fell through.

Benfica striker Azar Karadas has re-joined Norwegian club Brann for 440,000 euros. The contract is for three and a half years.

Marítimo's right-sided Under-21 international Filipe Oliveira has signed a two-year deal with Leixões.

Deportivo la Coruña are interested in signing unsettled striker Hélder Postiga from FC Porto.

Midfielder Delfin, 30, has signed for Naval for one season. The former Sporting, Boavista and Marseilles player was at Naval for the second half of last season.


Benfica midfielder Manuel Fernandes is to return to English club Everton for five years and nine million euros (half of his pass).

Striker Dady, Belenenses' top scorer with 15 goals last season, has moved to Spanish side Osasuna. He had to personally deposit the 3.5 million euros of the value of his pass with the Liga dos Clubes to get out of the contract that tied him to Belenenses.

Boavista have signed former Stoke City striker Sambégou Bangoura, 25, from Guinea-Conacri on a three year deal. He is Boavista's 17th signing of this close season.

Former FC Porto and Sporting striker ('Super') Mário Jardel has signed for Australian club Newcastle Jets.


FC Porto have bought the remaining 50% of Lucho González's pass for 6.65 million euros English club Everton were interested in the Argentinian midfielder but had offers for him turned down by Porto.


Lokomotiv Moscow have loaned Slovokian international left back Marian Had, 24, to Sporting for a season.

Benfica central defender José Fonte, 23, has moved to English Championship side Crystal Palace for a one-year loan period.


Ghana-born North American forward Freddy Adu arrived in Lisbon Monday to a hero's welcome, with scores of fans at the airport to greet him. He will undergo medical tests on Tuesday before signing a contract with Benfica.

Former Sporting full-back André Marques has signed for União de Leiria. Leiria have also secured the services of Udafe Uzeh, 19, from Valetta of Malta.


Uruguayan international Horácio Peralta, 25, has joined Académica from Nacional of Montevideo.


Benfica captain Simão Sabrosa will be playing for Atlético Madrid for the next four seasons. The Spanish club will pay Benfica 20 million euros, and the latter will have first option on two Atlético players. Simão spent six years at the Luz after coming through the Sporting youth scheme and then spending a season with Barcelona. He joins the Portuguese José Castro, Maniche and Costinha at the Manzanares. He is the tenth Portuguese to represent Atlético after Jorge Humberto (40 years ago) Paulo Futre, João Vieira Pinto, Luís Filipe, Hugo Leal and Dani. team-mate Rui Costa said: "Benfica have lost their most decisive player of recent years." USA international Freddy Adu, 19, has been mooted as a possible replacement for Simão.

The Argentinian U-20 international Angel Di María, 19, and midfielder Andrés Diáz, 24, have signed for Benfica from Rosário Central. Benfica paid 6 million euros for 80% and 50% of the players' passes, respectively. Forward Di Maria signs on a five-year contract, although he says that he wants to "have a great year at Benfica and then move to Chelsea".

FC Porto have signed Argentinian forward Ernesto Farias, 27, from River Plate. The contract is for four seasons. Serbian defender Milan Stepanov has joined Porto on a four-year contract for 3.5million euros from Turkish club Trabzonspor. Striker Hélder Postiga is not in Porto's plans for next season; he did not accompany the squad to Italy to play in Atalanta's centenary tournament. A possible destination is French club Rennes. Porto's Colombian forward Renteria has been loaned to French club Strasbourg for a season.

Sporting have signed Brazilian right back Pedro Silva at no cost on a three-year contract. Silva, whose last club was Corinthians of São Paulo, has represented Académica in Portugal. Silva's representatives have paid the Brazilian club 110,000 euros to release the player.

Naval have signed forward Davide from Sporting Braga on a three-year contract.


The Spanish press is reporting that Benfica captain Simão Sabrosa is on his way to Atlético Madrid for 19 million euros. Benfica have denied this, and coach Fernando Santos said that "Losing Simão would be a terrible nightmare". Benfica winger Paulo Jorge has been loaned to Spanish second division club Málaga for a season.

Serbian central defender Milan Stepanov looks set to join FC Porto from Turkish cub Trabzonspor for a reported 3.4 million euros.

Ariza Makukula, former Portuguese U-21 international who also has Congolese nationality, will represent Marítimo this season, on loan from Sevilla.

Colombian international left back Brayan Angulo, of América de Cali, will be loaned to Boavista for a season, via intermediaries Inverfutbol.

Académica have signed Ghanaian midfielder William Tiero on a three-year contract.

The Serbian defender Sinisa Radanovic has joined Liga newcomers Vitória de Guimarães on a three-year contract.


Benfica goalkeeper Moretto, little used by coach Fernando Santos, has been loaned to AEK Athens for one season. German 'keeper Hans-Jörg Butt (he of one of the most embarrassing goals in recent memory), previously of Bayer Leverkusen but since without a club, has replaced the Brazilian.

Benfica captain Simão Sabrosa is being chased by Liverpool and Atlético Madrid. They will have to find 25 million euros to take the winger from the Luz.

Sporting's Cameroonian winger Douala has signed a two-year contract with French club Saint Etienne, who he represented between 1996 and 98. The French club has also bought Belenenses defender Nivaldo for three million euros.

FC Porto midfielder Ibson, 23, has extended his contract with the club until 2011 (from 2009) but will be loaned out to Brazilian club Flamengo next season.

Panamanian forward Nicolás Muñoz, 26, has joined Belenenses.

Brazilian midfielder Andrade has returned to Brazilian club Vasco da Gama after a spell at Sporting Braga.

FC Porto central defender 'Pepe' (Képler Laveran Lima Ferreira), 24, has signed for Real Madrid for a fee of 30 million euros. Along with Porto midfielder Anderson, he is the second most expensive signing of the close season after Fernando Torres (Atlético Madrid to Liverpool for 36 million). Nani (Sporting to Manchester United) is fifth at 25.5 million.

Pepe has been three seasons at Porto and before that he was three seasons at Marítimo. Brazilian club Corinthians Alagoana and Madeiran club Marítimo are entitled to a share of 5% of Pepe's transfer fee under the so-called 'solidarity mechanism' which rewards clubs that formed players early in their careers.

Sporting 'keeper Ricardo, 31, the Portuguese international first choice, seems set to sign for Real Bétis of Spain. He has been at Sporting for four years. Serbian Vladimir Stojkovic of Nantes may be the replacement.

FC Porto full back Ezequias has been loaned out to newly promoted Leixões.

Sporting Braga's top scorer last season, the Brazilian striker Zé Carlos, has signed for Apoel Nicosia of Cyprus.

Juventus forward Fabrízio Miccoli, who was on loan at Benfica for the last two seasons, has signed a one-year deal with Italian club Palermo. Also out is Greek midfielder Karagounis, who rescinded his contract for "personal reasons". Marco Ferreira has joined CSKA Sofia on a year's loan.

Sporting youngsters Fábio Paim and João Martins will represent Belgian club Roeselare, next season.

Left back Areias, 30, ex-FC Porto, Boavista, Standard Liège and Celta Vigo, has signed a one-year contract with Belenenses.

Spanish midfielder Toñito, 30, formerly of Vitória de Setúbal, Sporting, Santa Clara and Boavista, has returned to Portuguese football from Rijeka of Croatia to represent União de Leiria.

Midfielder Ricardo Chaves has returned to Vitória de Setúbal from Sporting Braga on a two-year contract. Vitória have also taken Portugal U-20 international Bruno Gama on loan from FC Porto.

Portugal U-21 international forward João Moreira has joined Nacional for a season from Valência B.

Naval have signed Brazilian forward Tiago Freitas, 26, from Brazilian club Clube de Regatas, on a two-year contract. He is Naval's eighth signing joining goalkeeper Dani Moreno (ex-Algeciras), defender Igor (ex-Ribeirão), midfielders Hugo Santos (ex-Operário dos Açores), Felipe Brochieri (ex-Palmeiras B) and Bruno Lazaroni (ex- América RJ), and forwards Eanes (ex-Coritiba) and Wandeir (ex-Vardar Skopje).

Argentian defensive midfielder Javier Liendo, 19, has joined Boavista from Belgrano. Also arriving at the Bessa on a two-year contract is French midfielder David Fleurival, 23, from Tours FC, and Serbian midfielder Milos Bosancic, on loan from Partizan Belgrade. Meanwhile, António Livramento has rescinded his contract with the club. Coach Jaime Pacheco has said that he is not happy with the players the club is buying: "I'm making [president] João Loureiro responsible: this squad has to be strengthened with quality players … the squad isn't how I want it to be. To win, we need good players."

FC Porto have loaned winger Alan to newly-promoted Vitória de Guimarães.

Porto have also loaned Ivanildo (at União de Leiria last season) and Hélder Barbosa to Académica.

Central defender Jorge Andrade, ex-Deportivo La Coruña, will join compatriot Tiago at Juventus.

Ex-Sporting youngster Rui Fonte, 17, has been called up to participate in Arsenal's pre-season preparation. He has a contract with the London club until 2009.

Ex-Sporting central defender Beto has signed for three years with Recreativo de Huelva after spending a season there on loan from Bordeaux. Central defender Semedo has signed a four-year contract with Charlton of the English second tier. Liverpool are reported to be chasing Sporting's young midfielder Miguel Veloso, valued at 30 million euros. The Lions have secured the loan of midfielder Marat Izmailov, 24, from Lokomotiv Moscow.

Boavista have signed Congolese forward Kifuta, 19, from Real Massamá on a three-year deal joining 'keeper Carlos (ex-Steaua Bucharest), winger Laionel, 21 (Grémio Anápolis, on loan) and forward Edgar (ex-Málaga). Central defender Hélder Rosário has move to Málaga for 300,000 euros.

The Cape-Verdean forward Lito, 32, has signed for Académica on a two-year deal. He joins the following newcomers to the Estudantes: Tiero (ex-Asante Kotoko), Licá (S. Lamas), Orlando (Freamunde), Ricardo, Pedrinho (Varzim), Pedro Costa (Sporting Braga), Berg (SV Ried), Nereu (Benfica), Cris (Feirense), Ivanildo and Hélder Barbosa (F.C. Porto).

Forward Chilikov and winger Zé Rui have joined Bulgarian side CSKA from Nacional.

Brazilian central defender Rogério, of Santos but loaned to Gama, has joined Marítimo on a one-season loan. He joins Ricardo who has signed a two-year deal after his contract expired at Italian club Reggina.

Naval have signed Brazilian forward Wandeir Oliveira dos Santos, 27, ex-Vardar of Macedonia, on a two-year deal. He will join midfielders Eanes (ex-Coritiba), Bruno Lazaroni (ex-América), Felipe Brochieri (ex-Palmeiras B), and Hugo Santos (ex-Operário dos Açores), goalkeeper Dani Moreno (ex-Algeciras) and left back Igor (ex-Ribeirão). Orests is leavng the club to join Hansa Rostock of Germany for 300 thousand euros.

Newly promoted Vitória de Guimarães have presented two new signings: Brazilian forward Felipe 'Tigrão', 27, and midfielder João Alves from Sporting. Vitória will also be receiving two players from FC Porto, one on loan, one definitively, possibly Maciel and Alan. They go to Guimarães as part of the deal that will take Rabiola the other way. Rabiola will cost Porto 800,000 euros and they will pay his salary while he stays at Vitória this season.

Leixões, also newly promoted, have signed Brazilian forward Tales Schutz, 25, from Hong Kong club South China. Leixões have also signed Ezequias, Paulo Machado, Vieirinha and Diogo Valente on loan from FC Porto.

AC Omonia of Cyprus have signed Ricardo Sousa (Boavista) and Medeiros (Académica) on two and one year deals respectively.


Benfica have signed Paraguayan striker Óscar Cardozo on a five-year contract from Argentinian club Newell's Old Boys for 9.2 million euros (80% of his pass). It is a record for a Paraguayan player, and he is Benfoca's second most expensive purchase ever, the most expensive being Simão sabrosa from Barcelona in 2001 for 13 million euros. Benfica's Australian-born midfielder Kaz Patafta, 18, has been loaned to Australian champions Melbourne Victory for a season.

Brazilian forward Derlei has signed for Sporting on a one-year contract. In Portugal he has played for União de Leiria, FC Porto (during Mourinho's reign) and Benfica, where he was on loan last season from Dynamo Moscow. Sporting have also paid Mexican club Vera Cruz 1.2 million euros to keep Argentinian midfielder Romagnoli at Alvalade for another three season. Midfielder Luís Loureiro, who was on loan to Estrela da Amadora last season, has rescinded his contract with Sporting.

FC Porto have signed Brazilian striker Edgar for one season, plus three more as optional. Edgar played for Beira-Mar last season. Porto have loaned full back Sonkaya to Dutch club Roda. He was loaned out to Académica last season.

Belenenses have signed Serbian central defender Devic, 23, who played for Beira-Mar last season, and Panamanian midfielder Gabriel Gomez, also 23, from Colombian club Independiente de Santa Fé, both on loan. Also on his way to Restelo is Brazilian attacking midfielder Rafael Bastos, 22, on loan from Cruzeiro. Bastos played last season for Esporte Clube Bahia, scoring nine goals

Sporting Braga 'keeper Paulo Santos has renewed his contract with the club for two seasons. Braga have signed winger Lenny, 19, from Fluminense

Juventus have signed Portuguese midfielder Tiago from Lyon until 2012 for 15 million euros.


FC Porto have signed Polish midfielder Kazmierczak from Polish club Pogon for 1.4 million euros. 'Kaz' was on loan at Boavista last season.

Winger Silvestre Varela will play for Recreativo de Huelva next season, on loan from Sporting. Varela is currently on international duty with Portugal's U-21s in HollanDesportivo He joins former team-mate, midfielder Carlos Martins, who has signed a four-year contract with the Spanish club. Sporting and Recreativo have recently sealed a partnership of mutual cooperation.

Benfica's Brazilian midfielder Beto, 30, has signed a two-year contract with Swiss side Sion. Beto was never a favourite with the Benfica fans, and was rarely an option for coach Fernando Santos.

Sporting Braga announced four new signings Thursday: Roberto Brum, 28, from Académica, and Bruno Tiago, 19, from Gil Vicente, both midfielders, defender Anilton Junior, 26, from relegated Desportivo das Aves, and Polish 'keeper Kieszek, 23, from Greek club Aigaleo. After four years at Braga, central defender Nem, 34, has returned to Brazilian club Paraná where he played in 2000.

Paços de Ferreira have bought midfielder Fernando Pilar, 28, from Central Sport Club of Caruaru, Brazil. He will stay for one year with another as option. they have also signed Cape Verdean/Portuguese forward Furtado from CSKA Sofia on a two-year contract.

CSKA have presented Nigerian forward Onyekachi Amuneke as a reinforcement for the new eason … but Vitória de Setúbal claim that the player still has a contract until July 2008. Cash-strapped Vitória have had trouble paying the players' salaries.

União de Leiria have signed forward Jessuí from Brazilian club Serrano on a three-year deal. União say that they have a contract … but Paços de Ferreira say that the player agreed verbally to sign for them for the same three years, and actually announced him as a reinforcement at the beginning of the week.

Marítimo has signed Venezuelan international left back Édder Alfonso Pérez, 23, on a one-year deal.

Midfielder Cris has moved from Feirense to Académica on a three-year contract.

Newly-promoted Leixões have announced their first two signings: goalkeeper Jorge Baptista (ex-Gil Vicente) and defender Nuno Diogo (ex-Penafiel). Both sign for one season.

Lucas, 27, formerly of Boavista, has joined Red Star Belgrade on a three-year contract.


FC Porto have agreed a fee with Argentinian club Belgrano de Córdoba for the transfer of midfielder Mário Bolatti, 22. The fee will be 1.2 million euros, but the transfer hangs on the go ahead by the Argentinian authorities – Belgrano are in administration.

Former Portugese international Sérgio Conceição is to join Sporting Braga on a two-year deal. He will return first to Belgium to negotiate the rescission of his contract with Standard Liège . Braga have also signed winger Zé Manuel, 32, from Boavista on a two-year contract.

Varzim's António Mendonça, 24, has signed for Belenenses on a two-year contract. The Angolan winger was in evidence at last year's World Cup. Belenenses' veteran goalkeeper Marco Aurélio is to leave the club after nine seasons.

Luís Figo has decided to keep his boots on for one more season and will stay at Inter Milan. After the end of next season, he will take up administrative functions with the club in the area of 'International Relations'.


FC Porto have signed Brazilian U-20 international Fernando, 19, from Vila Nova de Goiás for 720,000 euros. The contract will be until 2012. Fernando was banned for a year from playing in South American international matches after hitting a referee in the last South American U-20 competition. Also arriving at the Dragão is former Académica left back Lino.

Paulo Assunção could be on his way out of FC Porto after an argument with coach Jesualdo Ferreira in Porto's penultimate game of the season at Paços de Ferreira. the Brazilian midfielder has one year left on his contract.

Sporting have sold Custódio to Moscow Dynamo for 1.5 million euros. The midfielder will sign a four-year contract on Monday.

Luís Figo has said that it is impossible that he will return to Sporting to end his career.

Benfica have extended Brazilian central defender David Luís' contract for an extra five years. Ivory Coast defender Marc Zoro arrives at the Luz.

Boavista have declined to take up the option to sign Polish midfielder Kazmierczak from Pogon. In return, Pogon have excused Boavista from last season's loan fees for Kaz and winger Grzelak, and have given the latter to the Portuguese club free of charge. Meanwhile, FC Porto are said to be interested in Kaz, arguably Boavista's best player last season. Pogon will be asking around 1.5 million euros, almost double what Boavista could have bought him for.

Boavista have effected a summer clearout of players. Out go the following: William, Khadim, Bessa, Hélder Rosário, Lucas, Fernando Dinís, Kaziu, Leo Tambussi, Tiago, Paulo Sousa, Ricardo Sousa and Zé Manuel.

Former Portugal international Sérgio Conceição, who has a year still to run on his contract with Belgian club Standard Liège, is in Portugal to discuss the possibility of joining a Portuguese club next season. He has already met with the president of Sporting Braga. Braga have signed former FC Porto utility player César Peixoto and renewed contracts with João Pinto, Wender and Vandinho.

Académica have parted company with 17 players in a massive close season clearout: Douglas, Eduardo, Sonkaya, Nuno Luís, Medeiros, Alexandre, Lino, Roberto Brum, Dame, Hélder Barbosa, Cláudio Pitbull, Joeano and Danilo. Meanwhile, the club has signed Pedro Costa from Braga, and Ricardo and Pedrinho from Varzim.

União de Leiria have signed Brazilian goalkeeper Rafael Fava, 24, from Juventus of São Paulo. Fava is União's fourth signing after Lio, Tiago and Éder.

Portuguese U-21 international Amoreirinha, loaned by Benfica to Estrela da Amadora last season, has signed a four-year contract with Romanian club Cluj. Arriving at Estrela is Vítor Moreno, on a free from Vitória de Guimarães.

Newly promoted Vitória de Guimarães have signed winger Carlitos, 30, from Belenenses, and midfielder Fajardo from Naval, both on three-year contracts. The club has released Anderson, Bacari, Franco, Henrique, Otacílio, Paulo Adriano and Vítor Moreno.

Naval have released veteran central defender and captain Fernando, who has been at the club for eight years. He joins a list of released players that include Wilson Júnior, Tony, Pedro Santos, Tiago Fraga, Léo Guerra, Valdir and Osvaldo


Manchester United have signed FC Porto's Brazilian midfielder Anderson and Sporting forward Nani on five-year deals. The former goes for 25 million euros, the latter for 25.5 million.

Sporting have also 'lost' Rodrigo Tello, 27, to Turkish club Besiktas on a four-year deal. The Chilean midfielder/defender was at the end of his contract with Sporting and so will move at no cost. Tello, Sporting's most expensive signing ever, was to negotiate a new contract with Sporting yesterday but disappeared from the radar. Sporting have put the club's legal department onto the move.

Goalkeeper Carlos has returned to Boavista from Steaua Bucharest after one and a half seasons away. Midfielder Tiago, 31, moves from Boavista to União de Leiria, where he has played before. Other players that will be leaving Boavista in a radical clear-out are: Cissé (Reading FC), William (retired), Khadim, Bessa, Hélder Rosário, Lucas, Fernando Dinis, Kaziu, Leo Tambussi, Paulo Sousa, Ricardo Sousa and Zé Manel.


Sporting starlet João Moutinho, 20, has extended his contract until 2013. He would now be worth 30 million euros to Sporting if any other club wanted to sign him.

South Korean winger Lee Lio has signed for União de Leiria for two seasons.


Veteran João Pinto, who will be 36 in August, is to renew his contract with Sporting Braga for one more season. The former Portuguese international began his career at Boavista in the 1988/89 season and has played 467 games for various clubs, scoring 16 goals.

Braga have also extended for four years the contract of influential Brazilian midfielder Vandinho, 29.

Versatile midfielder/defender Paulo Sérgio has extended his contract with Académica from 2008 until 2010.

Midfielder Paulo Sousa has been unable to agree a new deal with Paços de Ferreira, who have qualified for the UEFA Cup, and will be moving on, with Cyprus a possible destination.

Paços de Ferreira have signed the Brazilian defender Ferreira from Marítimo and the midfielder Filipe Anunciação from Desportivo das Aves, who were relegated at the end of the season.

Moroccan midfielder Jaouad Zaïri, 25, loaned to Nantes during the transfer window, will be returning to Boavista after the French club declined to take up the option on him.

Former Vitória de Guimarães defender Rogério Matías, 32, has terminated his contract with Belgian club Standard Liège and will be returning to Portugal.


Abel Xavier, 34, will be moving from Middlesbrough to LA Galaxy on a year-and a half contract, joining David Beckham. It was a conversation with the former England international that convinced Xavier to make Galaxy his 13th club.


Inter Milan's Portuguese forward Luís Figo, former World Player of the Year, will leave the Italian club and return home to Portugal at the end of the season to play for his first club Sporting, where he will finish his career. In an interview with the Italian sports daily Notizie dello Calcio, Figo admitted: "I miss Portugal. I've been out of the country so long, and I want to return to my people. They deserve it." Figo will return on a 'free'.

Benfica presented Brazilian forward Derlei as a reinforcement Monday, on loan until the end of the season from Moscow Dynamo. Derlei made his name in Portugal under José Mourinho at FC Porto.

Benfica have also extended the contract of midfielder Manuel Fernandes until 2011, but have loaned him out to Premiership side Everton until the end of the season. Fernandes was on loan to Portsmouth until December.

Former Gil Vicente winger Carlitos, 29, who had seemed certain to join Marítimo, has instead signed for Lisbon club Belenenses until the end of next season.


Moscow Dynamo have loaned former FC Porto forward Derlei to Benfica until the end of the season. The 'Ninja' has agreed to have his salary reduced from the reported 200,000 euros per month he was receiving in Russia.

Ghanian striker Ayew, 33, who has already represented União de Leiria, Boavista and Sporting in Portugal, has signed for Vitória de Setúbal until the end of the season. Ayew joins the troubled club from Inter Xian of China.

FC Porto have loaned Brazilian midfielder Leandro do Bomfim to Madeiran club Nacional until the end of the season.


Benfica central defender Ricardo Rocha, 28, has joined English club Tottenham Hotspur for around 5.5 million euros. Apart from the fee, Spurs have agreed to play two friendlies with Benfica; the proceeds going to the Portuguese club. Sporting Braga, Rocha's previous club, will receive 15% of the fee.

Colombian international forward Wason Rentería, 21, is set to sign for FC Porto from Brazilian club Internacional. The contract will be for five years, the fee 1.5 million euros.

Gil Vicente winger Carlitos has signed for Marítimo on a year-and-a-half contract.
Paços de Ferreira have signed Bolivian international midfielder Gualberto Mojica on loan from Romanian club Cluj.

Boavista have signed Polish left back Krzysztof Kazimierczak ('Kasiu'), 25, from Wisla Plock until the end of the season and midfielder António Livramento, 24, from Santa Clara, for three and a half years. Boavista have been alowed to sign players again after the club settled its debt with former player Martelinho.

South Korean forward Kim Dong Hyun, 23, who was loaned by Sporting Braga to Russian club Rubin Kasan, has returned to his country to represesent Seongnam F.C.


English Premiership side Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Benfica central defender Ricardo Rocha, who can also play at full back. However, Benfica will not sell him if they cannot find a cheap replacement - at the moment they have only two alternative centre-backs: Luisão and Anderson.

Benfica's Mexican striker Kikin Fonseca has returned home after just half a season to play for Tigres.

Argentinian club San Lorenzo have signed midfielder Leandro Romagnoli from Sporting, where he was on loan from Mexican club Vera Cruz.

Sporting Braga have terminated the contract, valid until June, of midfielder Hugo Leal in the light of alleged problems with coach Rogério Gonçalves.

Marítimo midfielder Neca, 27, has signed for Turkish club Konyaspor until the end of the season.

FC Porto have loaned central defender Thiago, 22, to Brazilian club Fluminense for two years.

Right back Reginaldo Araújo, ex-Santa Cruz of Brazil, has signed for Beira-Mar. The struggling Aveiro club have now signed six players during the window; the others are Eduardo, Matheus, Ezequias, Diego Zaporo and Leandro Makelele. Beira-Mar have got rid of Marco, Danrlei, Farah, Wegno, Diogo Macedo and Mário Jardel. Super-Mário has signed for Anorthosis Famagusta of Cyprus.

Bottom club in the Liga Desportivo das Aves have also been in the market for reinforcements: Maniche's brother Jorge Ribeiro, 25, left back, and forward Moreira, both ex-Dynamo Moscow, and Diego Gama, 23, left-winger, from Brazilian club Grêmio Anápolis.


Sporting Braga have signed ex-Vasco da Gama midfielder Andrade on a three-and-a-half-year contract. Meanwhile, striker Marcel, on Benfica's books but loaned to Braga, has rescinded with the northern club and looks set to return to Brazil to represent Flamengo.

Sporting have renewed contract with promising defender Miguel Veloso until 2013.

Estrela da Amadora and Vitória de Setúbal have been barred from signing new players until various debts are settled with former players. They join Boavista, in debt to former player Martelinho.


Argentinian defender Lucas Mareque, 24, has trained for the first time with his new club FC Porto, where he will play for the next three and a half seasons. Mareque recently finished a contract with River Plate.

The captain of the England Premiership side Fulham, Luís Boa Morte, has signed a three-and-a-half-year deal with West Ham for a transfer fee of around seven million euros. The Portuguese international, 29, has already represented Arsenal and Southampton in England, and looks set to end his career there.

Struggling Beira-Mar have presented three new players, on loan until the end of the season: the goalkeeper Eduardo (ex-Sporting Braga), the defender Ezequias (ex-FC Porto) and the forward Matheus (also ex-Sporting Braga). On the move from the Aveiro club could be Mário Jardel, who has had offers from Mexico and Saudi Arabia.

Vitória de Setúbal striker Lourenço has signed for Greek club Panionios until the end of the season, with two more as optional.
